Thoughts
Another successful Bandcamp Friday is in the books! I picked up two really exciting releases. One from the Suede God because I knew what time it was and the other being a record by Andrew. I am really excited for both!
I missed Third Verse this week, as I went to a Feist concert with my partner Karlie. I saw Dren and Factor there and that was a nice surprise. It was at one of my favourite venues, forever known to me as The Centennial Auditorium (kna TCU Place). I still call our think by its original name Sask(atchewan) Place. Centennial is a classic theatre/concert hall that was but in 1967 as part of Canadian public works Centennial projects across Canada at that time. It has great acoustics, sight lines and it is a sit down venue so it is even better. I was really unfamiliar with Feist prior to the show but I really enjoyed it. She is an incredible story teller and her on stage banter is top notch.
Rove and Nolto held down their first solo show together since coming on board to Third Verse a month ago. It was really dope of them to hold it down especially with live in studio guests as Moonbeams, Parab Poet and Zhe The Free ripped it live on air!
Thanks to UGSMAG I can listen to the show I missed last night! Catch Third Verse on CFCR 90.5 fm in Saskatoon, SK every Wednesday 9-10:30pm CST. Stream online via CFCR.ca or Radio Garden.
As always the last 10 episodes of my other weekly radio show You Know Know the Rules on UMFM in Winnipeg airing every Sunday night 10:00pm -11pm CST. Episodes available NOW!
Life has been extra hectic, the Blades are on a 7 game home stand that wraps up tomorrow with a game versus our heated rivals the Prince Albert Raiders. It has been such an amazing season and the Blades are the top ranked team in all of Canada and have a legit best 22-1-1 record at home this season. My brother and I are headed south on Saturday to Swift Current for the game and to celebrate one of my favourite mascots, Charlie Horse’s birthday! It will be my third mascot Birthday game this year, previously celebrating Pokecheck and Pims' birthdays respectively.
A previous meeting with my homie Charlie Horse from this season!
Record One
Zilla Rocca - Vegas Vic
I am not sure what took me so long to cop this one. I think because I am late to the game on Zilla Rocca and still forming an opinion and ear for him. SO far it has all been really positive and I am slowly picking up things from him. A Tweet from DJ Chong Wizard spurred me to grab this one and I am glad I saw the tweet and copped it. This is a Chong Wizard Records and Three Dollar Pistol team up release. The production is great on this record and is more enjoyable every time I listen to it. My jam is the cut with PremRock titled Yiddish Pimp. It has a really good vibe. Be warned this is on non-standard chaps black vinyl.
Record Two
PremRock - Mark’s Wild Years
Another really good release from Fused Arrow Records. It is slowly emerging as one of my favourite labels. Lots of diversity and label head Steel Tipped Dove has great taste I might add in selecting the releases for the label. I also love the commitment to vinyl out of the gate with the first 6 releases being vinyl. This one sold out pretty quick so if you want to scoop it you will have to hit the reseller market. This one was originally released back in 2012 and this is its first time to vinyl. It is a tribute record to Tom Wait's . I did not hear this record until I got the vinyl. I am not super familiar with Tom Waits to be honest but I like this record and I Don’t Wanna Grow Up is my jam. Standard Chaps Black Vinyl for the win again and again!
A tribute to one of America’s greatest living artists of any medium, Mark’s Wild Years is a diverse collection of songs from the depths of Tom Waits’ catalog reinterpreted in hip-hop form. Whether re-creating a narrative of death and dancing from Rain Dogs’ “Tango til They’re Sore,” Or tweaking a gut-wrenching homage to “Christmas Card from a Hooker in Minneapolis,” Mark’s Wild Years offers the glimpse into the mind of one of NYC’s more promising hip-hop artists as seen through the lens of Mr. Waits
Closing Ramblings
As always, thank you for reading and for the feedback!
**legal disclaimer all records and songs were run through the RAP NEST 5000 SUPER ANALYTIC COMPTROLLER MACHINE that is certified by the I.A.A.R.R.A (International Association of Analytical Rap Recordings Analysis) in layman’s terms, it means the machine is never wrong.
Catch you next week with more thoughts from the rap nest.

I'm gonna have to check for that PremRock release as Tom Waits is one of my faves. I started listening to his work with Mule Variations back in '99 and worked backwards through his catalog. I was surprised with how familiar I was with his work, and you can probably chalk that up to sampling. Both De La and 3rd Bass have used his stuff.
I am curious as to what your thoughts are on that album. I just like it because I like it, but it is probably more enjoyable if you are a Tom Waits fan. Nolto is the one that initially tipped me off that it was a Tom Waits related.
