Thoughts
It is always nice to fill in some gaps in the collections and I was able to do that recently. Noblonski came up on some deadstock records and offered them up to the chat. I jumped on the couple of things I didn’t have and were actually on my Discogs want list for quite some time. I was able to add the 2006 split album from Astronautalis and Babel Fishh released on subversive*rec. This is a really nice addition to the collection and a major hole in my Astronautalis collection. The second is a sampler record from Ponowai Flora. It features tracks from Demune, rush Ya (Ancient Mith and XNDL), Hungry Giant and more. This is one I was not familiar with when it initially dropped in 2008. It got lost in those weird physical music days of that era but I am really happy it found its way into my collection. I am not sure what Noblonski’s plan is with the rest of the records he posted in the chat, which were all really awesome, but I am sure you could hit him up and find out. I also added a 2023 double LP pressing of The Great Adventures of Slick Rick. It is a burgundy coloured vinyl but other than that it is pretty awesome. That was a glaring omission in the colection. My default is always to get new rap music versus getting old things I don’t have. It is always a constant struggle as they are both competing against each other in my mind and my wallet.

Record One
Kwamé - Super 7 Reaction Figure
I got a really cool preorder from I think back in September this week. I think I ordered it the same day I ordered the Biz Markie figure but I am not positive on that. The was a surprise drop to me. I obviously was familiar with Kwamé the Boy Genius but you have to be a pretty popular and iconic figure within the hip hop culture in order to get an action figure. The obscureness of dropping this figure was the draw for me. I have learned since this drop that Kwamé is a really big toy collector and You Tuber/Instagramer so for him to get a action figure drop actually makes sense because it is mostly catering to that world of collectors with some spill over the the hip hop collector. Kwamé was a fashion icon during this era in hip hop and this figure captures his trademark look of that era perfectly.
Record Two
Stoich - Rejection Of Pleasure
Stoich is the team up of mc Drunken Child and super producer XNDL and markes the reemergence of the mighty subversive*rec label which is really exciting for me as it was such a power house label in the early to mid 2000’s. Releasing so many amazing projects that would have otherwise never seen a vinyl release. Poison is my jam and features one of my favourites in StapleMouth and is the only feature on the album with really allows the the duo to shine. This is a great record front to back and the production is beautiful in every sense of the word! Another sure shot from subversive*rec.
Driven by a relentless pursuit of innovation and artistry, 'STOICH' transcends the boundaries of traditional hip hop, delving into uncharted sonic territories where musical evolution knows no bounds. This project emerges as a collaborative effort between two eclectic musicians, DRUNKEN CHILD (vocals) and XNDL (production): to push the envelope of what's possible in the world of advanced hip hop.
