I know things are tight for most people especially around this time of year with back to school, kids , fees, inflation etc, however if you are able to donate to CFCR FM-PHASIS please do so NOW. I have been a community radio volunteer since 1996 and a whole lot has changed over that time, some good and some bad. I think that Community/Campus/Non-Profit radio is becoming every more important in the rapidly changing landscape There is further e nd further erosion of loc al community voices and CFCR is commented to ensuring this voices are heard and representedonteh airwaves. The diversity of the programming and people on the airwaves is what makes us strong and critical to ensuring representation of the diverse communities of Saskatoon have a voice. The station is full of passionate community focused people and it is an honour to have been a part of it for all these years.
So please donate if you can and if you like Third Verse please donate in the name of the show. You will be asked the following information.
Program Name: Third Verse
Program Day: Wednesday
Program Time: 9-10:30pm
Program Host: Chaps
CFCR is proud to present the FM-Phasis fundraising drive for 2023 - "Radio Re-Wired" taking place from Saturday, September 16th to Friday, September 29th, 2023. This year marks our 32nd year of volunteer broadcasting at 90.5FM in Saskatoon!
FM-Phasis is essential to CFCR’s existence and accounts for 15-20% of our annual operating budget. We are hopeful with the support of the Community that we can reach a goal of $75,000 this year.
The funds raised during past FM-Phasis campaigns have been directed towards continued improvements and upgrades for the station, including New Studio Equipment (we purchased a new Board for our On-Air Studio in 2021!), Remote Recording Equipment (ie: USB Microphones, etc), Production Studio Upgrades, Transmitter Upgrades, Security System, Webcasting and the CFCR Mobile App.
One of the current projects we are working hard on is developing an on-demand Public Archive of our content, and upgrading our Computer/Server System to better Archiving and Digitization capabilities for the future.
The funds raised from the “Radio Re-Wired” FM-Phasis campaign will go towards:
- Developing an On-Demand Public Archive of our content
- Working towards moving the station to a more accessible space
- Upgrading our Computer/Server System
- New Production Studio Equipment
- New On-Air Studio Equipment
- And so much more
Exciting drop today from Fused Arrow Records, which is quickly emerging as a really dope label. This time it is the Suede God, AJ Suede teaming up with producer steel tipped dove. It is also nice to see a larger pressing of 300 copies, so this should help make some new fans. I can’t wait for this one to ship.
The Gumshoe Strut is back with the second single, Whirlwind, from his forthcoming album Extra! Extra! dropping this fall. This single is super dope and The Gumshoe Strut will leave you head in a whirlwind when you are done listening to this.
In case you missed the lead single Speaking’ My Mind, here it is for you listening pleasure.
Bandcamp has a listening party feature that is pretty dope. You get to listen to the album and shat message with a people listing and get some inside information about the album from the artist.
Hand’Solo records is hosting their very first listening party on Bandcamp. It’s for Mickey O’Brien’s Orebody this Saturday (Sept 23) at 7pm EDT. The album will be played in full almost a week before it officially drops. We’ll get some behind the scenes info, song lyrics, and an exclusive discount code to buy the album on vinyl, cassette, CD or digital. Hopefully we get a good turnout and can make this a regular thing for future releases.
Park Like Setting is set to release their third album, This, That and The Third and the second single Too Far is out now. Now let’s hope for at least a jewels case cd release and not the plastic sleeve cd releases they have been dropping lately.
Missed Third Verse last night? Well so did Noyz’s computer. It had other ideas and decided not to record the show. We should be back up next week. Catch Third Verse on CFCR 90.5 fm in Saskatoon, SK every Wednesday 9-10:30pm CST. Stream online via CFCR.ca or Radio Garden.
As always the last 10 episodes of my other weekly radio show You Know Know the Rules on UMFM in Winnipeg airing every Sunday night 10:00pm -11pm CST. Episodes available NOW!
Record One
Steel Tipped Dove - all the weight the feathers don’t have
When this initially dropped I figured I had few days to wait until pay day to order it. I gambled and lost as it sold out in two days. I made that assumption based on his Backwoodz Studioz album Call Me When You Are Outside still ebijng available. What I didn't realize is that was a 1000 copy press. I thought it was along the same lines as the 100 copy press. Also the two R.A.P. Ferreira features probably helped a lot as he doesn’t do many verses/songs outside of his own releases. One of the few times I strategically gambled and lost. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose as the say. However sometimes the universe believes in second chances. I was presented with a second chance when I saw a post from Steel Tipped Dove talking about a special Fused Arrow Records bundle, featuring the first four releases from the label including this one. The price was very reasonable and this was my shot at redemption. The one sort of hiccup but not really was I had recently ordered one of the records already but I knew I could find a home for it with one of the homie. So I pulled the trigger and secured myself a copy. A true record buying redemption story if I ever heard one. The record is awesome. My jam is Spectral Analysis ft. R.A.P. Ferreira and AJ Seude. Classic Black vinyls os this one will go down own the right side of history.
Record Two
Alaska & steel tipped dove
I probably wouldn’t have picked this one up if it were not in the bundle deal from Fused Arrow Records. Not because it is not a good record but just because you can’t buy them all no mater how hard you try, trust me I have been trying for over 30 years. I have been a fan of Alaska’s since the Hanger 18 days and this album does not disapoint one bit. The production as expected is super on point and I am really starting to hear a signature sound in steel tipped dove’s production that seperates him and is quickly making him one of my favourite producers. This a great record front to back. Lots rot digest as a kliteenar and pull you back in for multiple listens. My jam is kicksville.
Classic Material
sorry, it has been a pretty whirlwind week for me and I just don’t have the capacity this week to write something and do it justice in this section. I am looking forward to things settling down a bit for me and I will be back next week.
Closing Ramblings
As always, thank you for reading and for the feedback!
**legal disclaimer all records and songs were run through the RAP NEST 5000 SUPER ANALYTIC COMPTROLLER MACHINE that is certified by the I.A.A.R.R.A (International Association of Analytical Rap Recordings Analysis) in layman’s terms, it means the machine is never wrong.
Catch you next week with more thoughts from the rap nest.
Peace

"steel tipped dove" is a killer monicker! The cover of that album with Alaska is dope, too. There's something about those industrial structures.
