Thoughts
Going to be a bit of a shorter one this week. I am surprised I carved out enough time to get this much out. Probably a shorter one again next week as Summer Fling is going down next Friday and Saturday!
Big release day tomorrow!! Rove drops his sophomore production record, Poke The Bear. Some might say third album and classify the Fresh A.I.R album as the second but not me. I see that as a separate project/group. It might just be semantics but it is insanely dope. I know the few people I have talked to who have heard it in full would agree that that Rove took it to another level in the game. I love seeing the progression of his production and in the short time he has been doing it and releasing music. He has continually challenged himself and answered the challenge every time. Poke The Bear is like If Not Now but on steroids. It is like my favourite area of juiced up baseball with players crushing it day after day. It is like Rove is like the Pittsburgh Pirates Barry Bonds and just became the first 400 HR and 400 Stolen Base player. Like Barry, Rove saw that people love the long ball and he proceeded to hit 18 homers on this one solidifying his place in the hip hop annals. For those of you that don’t care for baseball, I will simplify it in the easiest hip hop terms possible. He took it to the next level. Rove established himself as a producer that crafts beats to get the best out of them MC he is working with’s style. He did that and then some on this one. There are so many incredible songs on this one. My favourites are Moka Only’s Freak The Form, Thesis Sahib’s Caveman Draw, Aj Suede’s Anytime, 2Mex’s Inside Baseball and Olio & Id Obelus’s Falling Down. There are too many hits to narrow it down but those are my picks. If you have the means please support this incredible release and grab a CD, Tape or Double LP now!!
Noblonksi made it to Saskatoon this past Friday. We have been having a great time kicking it and talking all things rap! It feels like we have known each other and been friends forever! On Saturday we linked up with Dren and hit Amigos for lunch and then went record shopping. We then ventured off to this garage sale where Dren had put some records on hold earlier. As we were walking we ran into Factor which was really dope. We then went to the garage sale dug through the Records and Nolto met us. Dren left us, and the three of us ventured on an adventure around Saskatoon to show Noblonksi all the old stomping grounds, various historically significant hip hop landmarks in the city and a bunch of Graffiti. We ran in to Evak who was painting a mural a couple blocks from this insane augmented reality mural he painted that we had come to see.
Sunday we recordes an episode of You Know The Rules, then went to a Graff jam with Taz, Lupe, Sirvis, Chetose and Sie. It was super dope. We had to bounce a bit early and meet up with Parab Poet to plot and scheme a future rap event and some other exciting things. We also decided to put on a producer jam Friday in my back yard.
Monday I worked but Karlie had the day off and took Noblonksi to all the Canadian spots like Tim Hortons and retailers Canadian Tire and Mark’s Work Warehouse. After dinner we listened to records in the rap nest as I worked on the this.
Tuesday Noblonski wandered downtown and ran into soso which was really random and dope. We headed to the YXE cypher down by River Landing hosted by the homies Zhe The Free and Oto Big Tones featuring Dj Charly Hustle on the 1’s and 2’s. It was super fun and we linked up with Nolto and his kids and Parab Poet. Nice to hear some younger mc’s from the city. a Super positive event that will be reoccuirng every Thursday through the summer months. When we got back to my house Dren rolled over and they worked on some live beat stuff.
Wednesday was Third Verse day! Noblonksi picked out an incredible stack of records for the Rap Nest archives and proceeded to drop heat all night! It was a great show! It was super fun having a cohost and I can’t wait until next weeks show.
We are going to a show tonight we didn’t know about but got a flyer at cypher for. It features the homie Skizza headlining and Luced TRIP who was in the cypher on Tuesday. It should be fun!
Really dope new single from Mickey O’Brien featuring Myka 9 and Sarah Craig with a dope remix from Factor!

Record One
MF Doom - Super 7 Reaction Figure
Now I know a lot of people missed out on this drop. I anticipated it being a highly saught after figure but I didn’t think it would sell out in minutes. I was anticipating the drop and when it dropped I added it to my cart and proceeded to check out. When I went to check out and when it came back it was not the screen I was expecting to see. I was expecting to see a conformation screen for my order but instead got a screen saying the figure had sold out. It sold out in my cart while I was paying. I was mostly just shocked and in disbelief. I had never had the happen before. I went to the instagram post and saw that thus happened to a few others so it softened the blow a bit. Then I kept scrolling the comments and someone posted the they had them at the Rhymsayers Gasdrawls store. I immediately went there and proceeded to add one to a cart and check out. This time success! Redemption was mine! It felt great to be able to add this one to the collection. I am a huge fan of the Super 7 Rap related Reaction figures. There are some great drops coming with Biz Markie and Ghostface Killa. I can’t wait. I am not a variant fiend. I just buy the first one the issue and then stop there. I have never really been a variant chaser. The odd thing I will but generally I don’t. The figure is as dope as I hoped it would be. I hope they make up some more soon for the many that missed out on this one.
Record Two
Kool Keith & Mc Homeless - Monsters
The second in what is shaping up to be one hell of a 12” single trilogy is finally here. This time Kool Keith and MC Homeless are back with the heater Monsters. We also have the same dynamic duo behind the production as the previous Aliens 12” with Rove and Nobonsi cold handling things once again. The remix features incredible guest appearances from Id Obelus and an insane chorus from Ceschi. Dave Varney is back with another incredible cover that makes this such an incredible release. I love everything about this record and trilogy. The songs are the best! The only knock is it was not pressed on classic black vinyl. It features an eco mix that looks like something you would see on a Garbage Pale kids card so maybe it is okay on this one.
