Feeling like Groundhog Day around here with another Bandcamp Friday going down tomorrow! It seems like we just had one of these, didn’t it? The good folks at Pen Thief Records are dropping their highly anticipated Winter Collection 2024 CD compilation tomorrow! This has been such a wonderful series and I know tomorrow’s drop will continue in that tradition. Pen Thief Records

The homies at OTHAR (newly amalgamated label of Ooh That’s Heavy and Audio Recon) are dropping a double remix LP from The Cloaks and a whole bunch of super dope producers! I am super excited for this one have already secured my copy on the low!

It has been a day and a week this week. I unfortunately don’t have the capacity to really do this justice this week. I was thinking of not even publishing one this week but I wanted to at least get something out. I am a firm believer in giving it the best you got, with what you got. The tank is pretty empty tonight so this is the best I can muster.

Record One

Hermitofthewoods - Coastal

This album is the best, If you have not checked it, do so right now. This one has been flying under the radar it seems atlas in my circles, and that is surprising to me, especially with the homies. They made limited runs of the CD and Tape to 25 each. The CD is sold out but a handful of tapes are still available. What Did They Expect? is my jam! The turntablist production on this one is so imppressive, refreshing and flat out dope. Another sure fire mc produced album. It came with a really dope personalized custom postcard and stamp. Such a nice touch. The unexpected surprise on the album is the uncredited soso feature on the hook on the track, The Secret Rules of Engagement. It is perfect!

Record Two

Maki - Agora

I put this tape on last Sunday in the rap nest, it was a really pleasant experience. The experience was relaxing and centring. I felt a lot better about myself after listening to it. Recharged and relaxed. This album continues to show the mastery and creativity in and with sound that Maki continues to demonstrate. It is a departure from the constraints of classic hip hop beats and production and I thick we get more of who Maki is as a person through this album. I am really enjoying the arc and expanse of his musical talents and music as he continues to find new and exciting ways to create and express himself without those traditional constraints that come with beat making. I don’t want to single out a favourite track because it doesn’t make sense in my mind to do that with a project like this. It is meant to be listened to inn its entirety and I would recommend that is how you should enjoy it if you already have not.
